Celebrating Creativity

There are three aspects to this part of my life, Bardic performances, Strange Sisters performances and running workshops in creativity.

Bardic Performance

Being Chaired Bard of Ynys Witrin last year gave me a huge confidence boost and I performed on stage more last year than in the rest of my life put together. The most fun I had was performing at the Big Green Gathering and chances are that I'll do a turn at some little festivals over the summer. I find performing both terrifying and exhilarating. I have put together a one woman show (it's about half an hour long) and with sufficient notice, I'm delighted to have a go at producing a poem on a specified topic as part of my performance as I have for the Glastonbury Symposium gig.

I'm sure the list of my engagements will extend greatly in the future as I am part of the Bards of Glastonbury who perform regularly but right now there are only two.

25th July 2008 Assembly Rooms, Glastonbury as part of the Glastonbury Symposium. I wasn't consulted about their blurb and I have to say I find it gloriously inaccurate! Never mind, I'm delighted to be there.

15th August 2008 Assembly Rooms, Glastonbury. The Bards of Glastonbury, including this year's Chaired Bard Ash, are providing an evening's entertainment as a Benefit gig for the Library of Avalon.

I do turn up occasionally for the Fabulous Furry Folk Club on Tuesdays in the Assembly Rooms but I would LOVE the opportunity to travel to showcase my poetry and as I can combine it with running poetry workshops I know this is a strand that's due to expand in the future. If you can think of any leads do please let me know.

Strange Sisters

We, Strange Sisters are keen to perform our 'Acclimatising' show. It is about half an hour long and will consider performing anywhere so long as our hosts can meet our expenses for showing up. We've performed it a couple of times and it's always gone down a treat - so literary festivals, Transition Town launch events, and other celebrations of creativity would be perfect settings for Strange Sisters. We have self-published the poems so if you'd like a copy, you can contact me to order it.

Creativity Workshops

As Elder Bard for Poetry it is part of my role to encourage others in their development as Bards. Luckily I trained as a Community Arts Facilitation at the Playhouse in Derry when I lived there and love running creative writing courses. As I say in the introduction, everyone is creative and celebrating creativity is important. Right now I've been focusing on getting the WTR workshops of the ground but next update there'll be creativity workshops on offer. So if you're interested, please tell me. Once again, I'm only too delighted to travel for work.
